Church History
The call of God to "teach my people faith" has been the underlying force that directed this ministry since it's first meeting on December 10th, 1978. Pastor Jim Lillard began teaching God's people faith in the rented facilities of Wheeles Lane Missionary Baptist Church. The Lord also gave the motto on which the ministry was to be structured, "Faith through knowledge produces truth in action," and the accompanying shield, which has been the logo of the House of the Lord Fellowship Church to this day. In 1979 the first board meeting was called and on July 19th, 1979, House of the Lord officially became a legal corporation and church. In 1980, House of the Lord moved to the old North Austin State Bank building on Northland Drive with a handful of believers. The handful of believers steadily grew from a handful to hundreds over the next four years. It was a wonderful time of growth and development and many lives were changed. In 1985, we purchased 18 acres of land on Daffan Lane and, under the supervising eye of Brother Neal Lynch, began to build a 26,000 square foot church home. We had purposed to pay as we built, but in 1986 the economy began to falter. In 1987 people began to move away to find work causing the congregation to drop from hundreds to sixty. The decrease in numbers decreased our finances and as a result the building remained 60% complete for several years. Then in July of 1993 while preparing for the Sunday Assembly the Lord spoke to Pastor Jim saying , "your wilderness experience is over". A few moments later Ken Gamblin, who lived in West Virginia, called and prophetically confirmed what God had just spoken to Pastor Jim. In March of 1994, through a tremendous work of God, House of the Lord purchased the former North View Baptist Church on Rundberg Lane where once again the church grew and prospered. Through another work of the Holy Spirit the church sold that property in May of 1999 and moved to the current church facility at 10206A North IH-35.in December of 2000.
We are now in the process of restructuring our church family to align with a New Testament example of spiritual fathers developing spiritual sons to become spiritual fathers. We are becoming a Kingdom community, a family of faith, and a world outreach center where sons of God learn how to live as sons of God. This is a place where you not only grow in the knowledge of God; you also learn to apply that knowledge to your life. |
